Second Annual Cape Cod Quahog Day

Celebrate Cape Cod’s quirky take on groundhog day in the summer! The island’s second annual National Quahog Day is scheduled for Monday, June 21st at Hemisphere Restaurant in Sandwich followed by a week long of festivities honoring our representative quahog Doug (get it?). Sandwich is the perfect stopping point on your way to or from the Captains House Inn or even makes a great day trip from Chatham during your stay. This year, FOX25 Meteorologist A.J. Burnett will be the Master of Ceremonies at the Quahog Prognostication during which through a secret b-valve language, Doug will give word to the Secretary General of Quahog Republic on how many more weeks of Cape Cod beach weather remain.

The ceremony will be followed by live music from Black Wampum, a local band which sings about Quahogs, free samples of Polar Cave Ice Cream’s flavor “Doug’s Mud,” and a Quahog Day bash, co-sponsored with the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce. All proceeds of a 50-50 raffle at the event will benefit the National Marine Life Center in Buzzards Bay.

The event is free and open to the public, but you must RSVP in advance! RSVP to kristen@capecodhamber.org.

Give your best guess at Facebook.com/VisitCapeCod for what the Quahog will predict and the five people with the closest guess will receive a limited edition Quahog Day t-shirt!

The fun doesn’t end there! This year, Quahog Day will kick off a week’s worth of Quahog-related activities around Cape Cod, including special menu additions and specials at favorites like the Hot Chocolate Sparrow in Orleans and Clancy’s in Dennisport. Shops like the Atlantic Spice Company and the Cape Cod Beach Chair Company will offer discounts as well. The week culminates on Sunday, June 27th with the 30th Annual WCOD chowder festival at the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis.
