Best Al Fresco Dining Options on the Cape

Image

Just because Labor Day is behind us and the kids have gone back to school doesn’t mean that summer is over.  We have over two weeks left of what is technically summer plus the possibility of an Indian summer in the weeks to follow.  Which means there’s only a handful of opportunities to take advantage of Cape Cod outdoor dining before al fresco is no longer an option and we’re obligated to slurp our oysters in the confines of four walls and a bar.  So bring your sunscreen and your appetite to one of my favorite outdoor dining joints on Cape Cod as soon as you can!

Burger at the Knack, Orleans, MA

Burger at the Knack

The Knack: Orleans www.theknackcapecod.com.  Oh. My. Burger.  If you’re sick of seafood, the Knack is the perfect choice for a post-beach lunch.  If you’re not sick of seafood, they’ve got you covered –fish sandwich, taco, and lobster roll options are super fresh and all fish is locally sourced.  Veggie tacos are also available for vegetarians or anyone looking for a yummy lighter option.  The Knack is not far from Nauset Beach and is also an ideal stop on the way back to the inn from a day trip to Provincetown or any of the National Seashore beaches.  Order at the counter and chow down at an outdoor picnic table.  Open daily 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Lobster Roll at the Outer Bar and Grille Wequassett Inn, Cape Cod

Lobster Roll at the Outer Bar and Grille

The Outer Bar and Grille: Harwich www.wequassett.com.  Overlooking Pleasant Bay and the resort’s luxurious pool and pool bar, the Outer Bar and Grille is the casual outdoor dining option at the five diamond Wequassett Inn.  Get yourself a cocktail and a lobster roll overflowing with sweet, juicy claw lobster meat and enjoy the views and pure relaxation this spot is sure to induce.  The menu offers salads, sandwiches, flatbreads, and more as well as a very creative martini selection. Open daily 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Salt Box Food Truck, Harwich Port, MA

Salt Box Food Truck

Salt Box Food Truck, Harwich www.facebook.com/saltblockfoodtruck.  Calling all taco lovers!  The Salt Box Food Truck offers the BEST tacos with fresh ingredients a number one priority.  Sandwiches and creative variations on fries are also on the menu as are several desserts well worth the splurge.  The truck can usually be found on Route 28 in Harwich Port.  Look for the taco signs.  And check their Facebook Page to confirm the day’s location.

Brax Landing: Harwich www.braxrestaurant.com.  Nothing screams summer quite like sitting on the deck at Brax Landing gazing at the boats in the adjacent marina.  It’s casual, it’s fun, and the menu has something for everyone.  I suggest steamers and a beer.  Open daily 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Ember Pizza: Harwich www.emberpizza.com.  Ever since Ember added an outdoor bar to its already enticing outdoor patio, I get envious of the patrons every time I drive by.  The thin crust stone oven pizza at Ember is to die for and the ambiance outside is highlighted by the blazing fire pit inviting evening diners to stay toasty while enjoying their meal.  Open daily at 4:00 p.m.  Lunch served weekends seasonally.

Sesuit Harbor Cafe, Dennis, MA

Sesuit Harbor Cafe

Sesuit Harbor Café: Dennis www.sesuit-harbor-cafe.com.  This classic Cape Cod clam shack is a must for anyone wanting to capture the epitome of Cape Cod in a meal.  Order at the counter and sit at one of the many picnic tables overlooking Cape Cod Bay and Northside Marina.  The menu runs the gamut from eggs, pancakes and homemade baked goods for breakfast to their world famous lobster roll, raw bar, fried seafood baskets, crack and eat lobster, salads, and deli sandwiches for lunch and dinner.  Open through Columbus Day daily 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Mac’s Shack: Wellfleet www.macsseafood.com.  Mac’s has gained so much popularity between its Wellfleet location and fish market on the pier in Provincetown, that it has opened a third operation called Mac’s Fish House in Provincetown.  Each location has its own personality and menu, but regardless of where you dine, you’ll find quality and variety including a full sushi bar!  Open daily 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
